To ensure the high quality and safety of Santa Clara’s drinking water, Water & Sewer Utilities’ Compliance Division will complete a water service line study and inventory in the coming months. Customers served by a lead service line will be notified within 30 days of inventory completion.

You may see City staff surveying the water service lines from the water meter to the building inlet by:

  • Physical visual inspection (no impact to customers)
  • Pipe diameter
  • Using known service lines of an area to determine the status of adjacent service lines based on similar criteria
  • Using water system records

Water service line inventories will be submitted to the State Division of Drinking Water (DDW), which enforces the California Lead and Copper Rule to comply with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule.

The City of Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities is committed to providing our customers with a safe and reliable supply of high quality drinking water. If you have questions, please call Water & Sewer Utilities at (408) 615-2000 during regular business hours: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM.
