The Utility Box Art program is a public art initiative designed to transform common utility boxes into distinctive works of art, creating a more vibrant, attractive cityscape. This program is provided by the Santa Clara Cultural Commission. Scroll down for artwork from 2019 to 2022.

The Tree of Life by Surabhi Ahuja

This piece, "The Tree of Life" represents connection to the sun, ground, air and everything around you. It represents family roots. A family is rooted in history and branches out, creating new life. I
t represents individual growth, strength and uniqueness, as they stand tall and strong. Finally, it represents rebirth and immortality as it goes through a yearly cycle of death and regrowth of its' leaves. Located at Scott Blvd. and Anna Dr.

Lonnie finalRenewal of Community and Learning by Lonie Fullerton

This piece, "Renewal of Community and Learning" represents the theme as it is a renewal of community and togetherness which we missed so much during the quarantine period of the pandemic. The artwork is about Lonie's students and their happiness returning to campus and enjoying the opportunity to learn and do the activities that bring them joy. Located at Saratoga Ave. and Los Padres Blvd.

Giada newBloom like a Flower by Giada Conte 

This piece depicts a cartoon character engaged in four situations, one per side that suggest different positive approaches to life. The symbol of a flower is present in each scene, tracing an analogy between flowers and people, as they both go through processes and changes that make them unique and beautiful. The top with the phrase, "Bloom like a Flower" reveals the message. Located at Bowers Ave. and Warburton Ave.

Kong finalOur Houses by the Bay by Helen Kong

This piece is a representation of how our residents live side by side in harmony with each other. Santa Clara is made up of a diverse population. We are renewed through our perseverance as a community but also refreshed in nature and by the serenity of the Bay that defines our city. Multi-colored houses sit above a reflective body of water in a playful and uplifting style that brings peace to those who pass by. Doors, windows and shingles are represented in various shapes and sizes. Located at Agnew Rd. and Sun Fire Way.

Geeta finalWe are in it Together by Geeta Taneja

This piece is dedicated to the artists daughter who is in the center of the painting praying for the well-being of COVID 19 patients. Two hands represent solidarity of different races and classes which brings us together during the pandemic. The artwork shows that mother earth is represented by a feminine figure that heralds lift and rejuvenation. There is ultimately “Renewal” as shown by nature, in the form of birds and plants rejoicing the earth. Located at Benton St. and Pomeroy Ave.

This piece uses symbolism to show a transition of time, from limitations to new growth and unlimited potential. Moving away from a masked society we are free to reveal our true identities, even bear witness to new growth. Our imaginations of a more open society where dreams become actions. The tree of buttons is from the Dream Meaning and Symbolism that if you see a button in a dream that symbolizes gain. You will successfully finish a project; you will invest all your time and effort and be extremely dedicated to every detail. Located at Bowers Ave. and Cabrillo Ave.

This piece shows a diversity of people representing all age groups taking a walk on a spring day. In the same way that communities are slowly coming out of the pandemic, springtime is when people come out after sheltering for the winter. For the artist, spring is a time of hope, togetherness and love. Located at Pruneridge Ave. and Saratoga Ave.

This piece used hands of different colors and sizes that surround and embrace the box to represent people of different races and backgrounds coming together in unity and offering a hand to one another. This piece represents the characteristic of the Mission Santa Clara. The Spanish arches, tiles, adobe pots, flowers, adobe along with a landscape of what it was like then. Located at Chromite Dr. and Monroe St.
