Community Food Resources
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020, the City of Santa Clara immediately saw a need for families who experienced food insecurity during the pandemic. To continue supporting our youth, seniors, and entire community, the City partnered with various organizations to provide the following free programs to all residents.
Senior Nutrition Meals at Santa Clara Senior Center
The Santa Clara Senior Center is now open to the public and residents may participate in the County of Santa Clara Senior Nutrition program for qualified older adults. Call 408-615-3170 for more information. At this time, Senior meals-to-go service and meal delivery have ended.
Second Harvest Food Bank

St. Justin Community Ministry was established to help meet the needs of those who come to us looking for assistance, distributing food and clothing.
Meals on Wheels Delivers to Homebound Older Adults
As people age, accessing and cooking food can become a barrier to proper nutrition. If you or someone you know are unable to shop or prepare your own meals due to a physical or mental condition, and are homebound, the Meals on Wheels program may be a good option. The program provides meal service to homebound, older adults 60 years of age and older.

If you and/or anyone in your family/friends/neighbors are in need of food assistance during this time, they can get FREE FOOD at any of the listed Parishes during the listed time(s).
There are weekly drive-thru sites are at churches for food distribution.
No registration needed beforehand - registration will be done on site.
Food For Families
The City, in partnership with The Salvation Army and Second Harvest Food Bank, provided Food for Families, free essential food items to residents. The program began in November 2020 and ended in June 2021.Healthy Meals Santa Clara
At this time, the Healthy Meals Santa Clara program has ended. At the beginning of the pandemic, the City of Santa Clara worked quickly to establish food distribution program to our youth. From March 2020-August 2020, over 150,000 free meals were provided to youth in Santa Clara. In August 2020, Santa Clara Unified School District resumed full responsibility for meal distribution to its students.
Emergency Rental Assistance Program
The City of Santa Clara’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program assisted low-income households that are at <60% of Area Median Income, with rental assistance for past due rent payments that have accumulated due to the COVID-19 crisis. The goal of the program is to prevent low-income households from becoming homeless. Visit the webpage for status of the program at SantaClaraCA.gov/RentRelief.
COVID 19 Eviction Moratorium
The City of Santa Clara recently adopted an ordinance that prevents residential tenants, who have experienced a loss of income due to COVID-19 related impacts, from being evicted in Santa Clara. Visit the webpage for more information.
Project Sentinel
If you or someone you know is experiencing financial hardship from COVID-19 and unable to pay rent or has received a termination notice, please call Project Sentinel at (408) 470-3745. Project Sentinel can provide guidance on these regulations and facilitate conversations amongst tenants/landlords. Project Sentinel also provides assistance around all other types of landlord/tenant issues.

The EDD provides a variety of support services to people who have lost their jobs or have had their hours reduced due to the impacts of COVID-19 in California. They provide a number of online options to access this support.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: As part of the federal CARES Act, the federal government has approved funding for additional unemployment insurance (UI) benefits to workers impacted by COVID 19, which include the following:
- Increasing available unemployment benefits to $600/week,
- Extending program availability up to four months, and
- Including self-employed and contract workers typically ineligible for UI benefits.
Those interested in these benefits are encouraged to begin the application process online as soon as possible.
